A sign of progress

Apparently even Seattle has a limit to how stupid it allows itself to be. Voters rejected a proposal that would levy a 20 cent plastic bag fee at grocery stores.

I'm glad they found a tax that they would reject, but I will still say that for such a "green" and "progressive" city, its freeways are lined with trash. If Seattleites were as ecologically sound as they pretend to be, it'd be the cleanest city in America.

I thought those were just old copies of Reason Magazine, blown from the beds of old pickups driving back to the Boondocks at Speeds Governed By Individual Competence and Responsibility.
Heh.

I'm against the tax on grocery bags on principal. Unless they use the money to build an enormous, state-of-the-art arena to bring professional Basketball back to Seattle. Then I'm for it. Any tax that brings pro sports is a righteous tax.

Most people who claim to be green already bring reusable totes to the grocery store, and Washington is full of such responsible people.

Anyone who doesn't can merely feel ashamed and use the 20 cents per bag they saved to buy a 40 oz malt liquor to drown their sorrow.
