Bump or Dip?

On a road I take to work everyday there has been some sinking in one of the lanes. I don't know what is causing it but the left side of the lane has been sinking for the last year or so. Finally the DOT put up a sign that read "DIP".

Last week they patched the roadway to remove the dip. The patch job does not exactly make the road surface smooth, in fact it looks like the asphault was dropped from a helicopter. Now instead of a sinking lane you have to drive over this clumpy raised area. Today the DOT replaced the DIP sign with a new sign that reads "BUMP".

Sorry, no libertarian rant about roads. I think government should oversee things that cannot be compartmentalized and roads would fall under that category.

I really preferred the DIP over the BUMP.

I thought Libertarians lived at the end of a dirt road in the panhandle of Idaho?

Anyway, I blame the crappy road conditions on Bush.

The first thing that went wrong with the Roman Empire leading to its fall was crappy roads. It makes you think...

Anyway, our roads are great in Ohio since the Governor thinks it best to spend all of our money on Transportation instead of developing an effective education funding method. So the roads are fine, but in thirty years Ohioans might be the dumbest people in the country. I'm exaggerating of course.

There are some things that governments can naturally do well. I think laying asphault down in a relatively predictable way is one of them.

Everyone I've met who was from Ohio did have a special way about them now that I think about it. Present company excluded of course.

Hmm... I expected for a second that you would strike down public education. Incidentally, would you?

I heard that Libertarians believe in minimal goverment interference and are against publically funded hand-outs.

So it seems they must be against public education. They probably feel that children should teach themselves to read, otherwise they are weak and unworthy and will probably end up on welfare.

Ohio may end up being the first Libertarian state. Although they will always vote Republican as long as they use Diebold voting machines.

Libertarians are split on the issue of public education. More generally we agree that it should not be funded federally as the Constitution doesn't enumerate the responsibility to educate, thus the 10th Amendment would apply.

As someone who attended public schools and did in fact teach myself to read I don't really care. It should be funded by each state according to the discretion of their own voters.

I say no Feds, all state essential funding and local supplemental funding. I don't know how it is in your state, but what I do know is that Ohio...well, let's just say our roads are in great shape.

I also blame bush for the crappy road conditions.
